Air Jordan 1: “Do the Right Thing” Custom for Spike Lee

This year will be the 25th anniversary of Spike Lee’s influential film Do the Right Thing. And while that film didn’t boast his recurring Mars Blackmon character, it did have the infamous scene where a character gets their Air Jordan 4s stepped on (if only the retros were still $110 after tax). Today we get a look at the Air Jordan 1 “Lance Mountain” collaboration with Nike SB customized for the director, as it references Radio Raheem with the gold plated ‘Love’ and ‘Hate’ brass knuckles on the back heels with the title of Public Enemy’s hit ‘Fight the Power’ written on the ankle. Vintage Gear: Air Jordan x Mars Blackmon T-Shirt Collection

Many familiar with Jordan Brand’s history are then in tune with Mars Blackmon’s existence. The legendary ad campaigns ushered in by Spike Lee featured the director as a character from his 1986 movie She’s Gotta Have It, in which Mars loved his Jordans so much that he would even sleep in them. Are Spike Lee and Ray Allen Planning A He Got Game Sequel?

While Jesus Shuttlesworth is making his NBA debut against the Brooklyn Nets (Ray Allen will be wearing a special nickname jersey with J.Shuttlesworth stitched on the back of it later this month – we’ll have to wait to see if he wears the special Air Jordan 13 “He Got Game”) rumors have been circulating about the potential discussing of a He Go Game sequel. The 1998 film depicts the Jordan Brand athlete as a kid juggling big offers from universities to go play basketball and the ominous return of his father, played by Denzel Washington, whom he’s stopped speaking to after tragedy disbands his entire family. Where Spike Lee would decide to take the film’s sequel is anybody’s guess, but with 16 years having passed since the original its safe to say that Jesus would definitely be a veteran player much like Allen is today for the Miami Heat. Spike Lee Offers Custom Air Jordans as Kickstarter Reward

Spike Lee has been a filmmaker for the better part of 3 decades, producing 35 films over that span in any way imaginable. He helped usher in Jordan sneakers to mainstream media with his Mars Blackmon character and without him it could be argued that Jordan Brand wouldn’t be in the position it is today. The website Kickstarter is a tool used by independent filmmakers to fund their films and now Spike is using it to produce his latest work. The site asks for donations, and depending on the sum of your donations comes a different prize. At $500, the director is offering various autographed Nike sneakers that he’s worn over the years and with a $1000 donation comes the choice of five custom Air Jordan sneakers designed by Van Monroe. Air Jordan XX8: “Do The Right Thing” – Release Reminder

Spike and Mike teamed up and nothing was the same. The legendary director did so much for Jordan Brand during his tenure as an actor and director of advertisements, almost as much as Michael Jordan did on the court, that the Jumpman crew honored him by giving him his own shoe in the Jordan Spi’zike. But the love didn’t stop there, and in honor of the anniversary of Spike Lee’s legendary film Do the Right Thing, Jordan Brand has released the Air Jordan XX8 ‘DTRT’ in a colorway honoring the film and its director. The Air Jordan XX8 ‘Do the Right Thing’ will release this Saturday, June 29th, so make sure to keep an eye out for them during your sneaker hunting tomorrow.

2013 Jordan Brand Classic: Event Recap

The Jordan Brand Classic is more than just a set of basketball games. The event provides a complete experience for the young athletes participating, and for the folks who make it out to the day. The former group enjoyed plenty of Jordan Brand activities leading up to Saturday, including a private event with Spike Lee, a trip out to Melo’s native Redhook, and some training time with Team Jordan boxer Andre Ward. The latter group, those who populated the Barclay’s Center for Saturday’s trio of games, saw the in-game action boosted by the presence of celebs and athletes like Fabolous, C.C. Sabathia, Amare Stoudemire, Victor Cruz, and more. Oh, and did we mention that Drake ending the evening with a performance wherein he brought the All-Americans on stage to celebrate? Spike Lee x Chris Paul “Unbelievable” Commercial

Chris Paul’s stealthy moves are being celebrated in this new NBA commercial from their ongoing BIG campaign directed by none other than Spike Lee. The “Unbelievable” spot features CP3 weaving in and out of the defense as well as on and off the court (he apparates into a pub a one point to grab a bite to eat with Magic Johnson and Steve Nash). Spike Lee in Air Jordan XX8 “New York”

The biggest Knicks fan around was repping extra hard last night, Spike Lee showing up to the game at Madison Square Garden with a fresh pair of the Air Jordan XX8 on feet. That’s right, the sneaker that doesn’t even release till February. Of course the pair was made to match with the orange and blue, with two separate colored sneaks seen on Spike’s feet. After the surprise courtside debut last night, Jordan Brand has dropped off some official images of the Air Jordan XX8 ‘New York’ that Spike Lee busted out. This new set shows off the icy soles on bottom along with the little Jumpman icon hitting on the carbon fiber heel clip. At this point these have been labeled as a custom creation just for Spike, so there’s no word on whether or not a crazy mis-match like this could be coming to retail.
