Though Kobe Bryant has retired as one of the unquestioned all-time NBA greats, he’ll be remembered for a few of his peccadillos as much as his clutch play. Being a difficult pupil of his coaches, a ball hog, an aloof teammate are just a few most common. But Michael Jordan impersonator is one of his more infamous tags – mimicking MJ’s walk, demeanor, tone of voice during interviews, even manner of celebration (see 2009 NBA Finals-clinching win).
But there was actually a guy before Kobe who did a lot of these MJ mannerisms by the name of Kendall Gill, Charlotte Hornets guard in the early ’90s. Look up YouTube footage of Gill replicating the MJ’s leaning dunk, dribble, and shooting form for proof. Gill even wore Air Jordans 9 and 10 (“Seattle“) during Jordan’s absence in 1994. It’s by some strange recipe of coincidence that there’s an Air Jordan 10 “Charlotte” on the way, a shoe Gill surely would’ve worn during his Hornets run. And perhaps a shoe Kobe would’ve laced back then had he stayed with the Hornets, who drafted him 13th overall in 1996.
Ok, six degrees of separation vibe there. Or something. You sort it out. And stay tuned for more Air Jordan 10 “Charlotte” city pack details as we near the June 18th release. Early pairs now on eBay.
