Jordan Brand is going back to Michael Jordan‘s former high school for the fourth annual Fred Lynch invitational. The brand will help open the tournament tonight with the unveiling of Laney High School‘s newly refurbished Michael Jordan gymnasium, and a question and answer session with former head coach Lynch, an assistant coach at the school when Jordan attended, and Ruby Sutton, Jordan’s PE teacher. Select Jordan Brand athletes will also be on hand to participate in the event.

Since Jordan’s time at Laney, Lynch has been known as the coach who cut Jordan from the varsity team before his sophomore season, even claiming responsibility for the roster move in Jordan’s 1989 video Come Fly With Me. However, Clifton “Pop” Herring was acting head coach during Jordan’s high school basketball career and ultimately responsible for the omission that helped fuel Jordan’s competitive drive.

The tournament features 50 basketball teams throughout North Carolina, and will be played in high schools and gyms throughout the Wilmington area through Wednesday, June 24th. For more information and tickets to the Fred Lynch Invitational, visit laneybasketball.net.
