Michael Jordan Signed to the Chicago Bulls 30 Years Ago Today

Right now we’re in the dead zone of NBA news. Sure, thanks to the NBA Draft, free agency gamles, and the now well-documented Summer League, people have stated that the league is now a 12 month season, but in reality, September is a notoriously slow month. Back in Michael Jordan’s day, it wasn’t unusual to sign contracts in September though, as today we celebrate the 30th anniversary of His Airness inking a deal to play with the Chicago Bulls. At the time of the deal, the number 3rd overall pick of the 1984 Draft was 21 years young. Hit the click for a highlight video of Mike’s rookie season courtesy of Bleacher Report and stay tuned for more MJ updates right here on JordansDaily.

Michael Jordan’s 1984 Olympic Converse Sneakers Up for Auction

September 5th, 2014 By

Michael Jordans 1984 Olympic Converse Sneakers Up for Auction

You’ll rarely see another brand of sneakers besides Air Jordans on this website, but when you do they’ll most likely be of the Converse nature as a call back to Mike’s time at the University of North Carolina. While Mike hit his legendary shot against the Georgetown Hoyas in the NCAA Final Four Championship Game wearing the Converse Pro Leather, here we get a look at a beat up canvas rendition with leather around the surrounding toebox. Talk about creases, as this pair looks to have been used and then some on the court by Mike. MJ would go on to win a Gold Medal for USA during those games. The pair is being auctioned off by one of the ball boys for the men’s national team in 1984, and bidding will start at $5,000. If you can remember, MJ’s “Flu Game” Air Jordan 12s sold for over $100,000 last year.

Michael Jordan Accepts ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Michael Jordan Accepts ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is sweeping the country right now in an attempt to raise awareness and to help find an eventual cure for Lou Gerhrig’s disease. The thought process behind it is simple – you have 24 hours to respond to the challenger and either donate money to the charity to help fund research for motor neurone disease or dump a bucket full of ice on your head. Michael Jordan was recently challenged by none other than Jordan Brand Athlete Derek Jeter, and the boss responded in a big way. He nominated Phil Jackson and all of his Dream Team teammates to donate money and feel the rush of cold water over their heads. And considering Mike’s had ice running through his veins after all those clutch career moments, we doubt he minded feeling the cold water for a few moments. Watch the video after the jump.

A Look at Michael Jordan’s 23 Game Winning Shots

August 7th, 2014 By

A Look at Michael Jordans 23 Game Winning Shots

From the shot over Ehlo to just The Shot, Michael Jordan definitely had the clutch gene. Yesterday we were treated to a play-by-play comparison of Kobe Bryant imitating Michael Jordan’s moves. The resemblance was a little spooky and irrefutable evidence that Michael made a lasting impact on some of the game’s other greatest players. Like Michael, Kobe’s had his fair share of buzzer beaters and game sealing shots, but there’s nothing like the original. Michael Jordan had 23 of them throughout his 15 year career. Is it a coincidence that it coincided with his jersey number (imagine if he had stuck with 45 for the remainder of his career, he might’ve just had to make a few games closer than they needed to be). Hit the click to watch the full montage of Mike’s clutch gene and let us know which shot was your favorite in the comments section.

Kawhi Leonard Beats Michael Jordan in a Game of Hot Shot

August 6th, 2014 By

Kawhi Leonard Beats Michael Jordan in a Game of Hot Shot

Kawhi Leonard became the first Jordan Brand Athlete to take home the NBA Finals MVP trophy since the man that coined the brand in this year’s Finals. This award will most likely come with a more featured role for the Spurs up and comer in the Jumpman’s lineup, and he already is starting to make appearances at the request of the man himself. During Michael Jordan’s summer camp, Kawhi came out to play a game of Hot Shot, teaming up with a camper to face off against Michael. While Leonard opted for a pair of what looks to be the debut colorway of the Air Jordan XX9, Mike kept things rather casual in the black and white Jordan Future. Watch the video below.
