On the eve of release day, Nike has handed down official images and info on the Air Jordan 5 colloquially known as the “Hornets.”

The tag the Swoosh is going with is “Pre-Grape,” which is tied to the very interesting backstory of this colorway. Nike says that legendary designer Tinker Hatfield originally intended Midnight Navy/White/Turquoise Blue to be the “Grape” colorway in 1990 but instead went with the White/Grape Ice-New Emerald setup that’s blown the minds of sneaker fans ever since.

Apparently, Tinker found this navy blue and turquoise colorway in the archives, it jogged his memory, and now Jordan Brand is bringing this blast from the past into the light of the present – tomorrow – for you to buy.

Nike.com will carry this release on-time, available starting 10am EST tomorrow. Get the official photos here.
