Releasing for only the third time in history, Air Jordan 7 “Hare” is rapidly approaching its designated May 16th drop date. Ready?
It’s the colorway Tinker Hatfield created for Michael Jordan to wear for Bulls games from February to April 1992. With the exception of the very black and red Air Jordan 1, Mike’s sneakers for this state of the regular season had been clean white leather-based for the five years preceding the Hares. As the Air Jordan line’s design language progressed and sneaker colorways were becoming more and more daring, the time was right to change up the format.
If you’re keeping score at home on AJ7 colorways – it was Bordeaux for the ’92 NBA All-Star Game, Hares for regular season games February through April ’92, Breds for the entire ’92 NBA Playoffs, Olympics for the ’92 Summer Olympics, and Cardinals for November ’92 to February 1993. That’s when Mike debuted Air Jordan VIII in the “Aqua” colorway at the All-Star Game in Salt Lake City.
The appearance of the 2015 retro release captures the 1992 original and 2008 Countdown Pack looks pretty much spot on. Light silver nubuck makes up the base – the original was a satiny soft-touch leather called Durabuck that older sneakerheads constantly want Jordan Brand to bring back – with white full grain leather making up the skeleton of the construction. Somewhat subtle red touches on the midsole and on the Dynamic Fit inner sleeve, with multi-shade graphics, created a flashy yet understated look that remains a fan favorite 23 years later. And this is one of Bugs Bunny’s all-time favorite kicks, who’s to argue with that?
