Last night, Bobby Simmons made his return to the NBA for the first time since November 2010 after being waived by the San Antonio Spurs. He debuted with the Los Angeles Clippers after signing a 10 day contract this past Monday. The former DePaul star, didn’t score in last night’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, but he did turn heads for another reason. The Jordan Brand athlete wore an Air Jordan XIII player exclusive in a White/Royal colorway that featured his number embroidered on the tongue. The NBA’s All-Star Weekend has come and gone with one of the more memorable All-Star game’s in years which made up for a less than stellar All-Star Saturday Night. The weekend began with the Celebrity All-Star Game and we saw J.Cole and Kevin Hart wear the Air Jordan XI ‘Concord’ and Air Jordan 2012 respectively. Jordan sightings were absent from the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest and Foot Locker Three Point Shootout, but during the main event of the weekend we saw both the Air Jordan 2012 and Jordan Brand All-Star Pack hit the court in Orlando. The Air Jordan 2012 doesn’t drop until Saturday, but it officially made its NBA debut last night in Houston. The Rockets’ Kevin Martin, who is a Jordan Brand athlete, donned the White/Black-Varsity Red edition of the Air Jordan 2012 against the Philadelphia 76ers. Its clear as to what flight Martin chose as he went with the E version of the 2012 as he helped Houston extend Philadephia’s losing streak to five games. The San Antonio Spurs are the best team that no one has talked about this season as they have remained a threat in the West despite their aging stars. While everyone in the media was focused on Linsanity, the Spurs had quietly pulled off a nine game winning streak helped by their youth movement. Kawhi Leonard, who was drafted out of San Diego State, is a key contributor to the Spurs’ success this season by averaging 7.5 points and 5 rebounds off the bench. In last night’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers, Leonard went back to his SDSU roots by wearing some Jordan heat specifically the Air Jordan XIV in Light Graphite/Chartreuse. In those XIVs he scored 24 points, but it was all for nothing as the Spurs were soundly defeated by 40 at the Rose Garden. Quentin Richardson hasn’t lived up to the potential he once had coming out of Depaul as he’s become an NBA journeyman of sorts, playing the position of role player for many seasons now. The latest stop of his career has him in Orlando where he’s filled in nicely in the small forward spot. During yesterday’s game against rival Miami Heat, Richardson was given the task of stopping LeBron James. He wasn’t able to do that as LeBron almost put up a triple double, but he did break out a new Black/Royal Air Jordan XIII PE. It has been a good season for Joe Johnson thus far as his Atlanta Hawks are sitting at 19-11 which is fourth in the Eastern Conference. In addition to the Hawks being in prime position for a playoff run, Johnson was named to the NBA All-Star Game; the sixth of his career. Last night on the road in Phoenix, Johnson who is averaging over 17 points per game, wore his Air Jordan XII player exclusive of which we featured previously. He wasn’t on his A game last night as he only scored six points, but the Hawks squeaked out a close victory winning 101-99. The Air Jordan X City Series pack featured Orlando among the five cities selected to represented and while there is no sign of that AJ 10 retroing this year, there is a great substitute. The Air Jordan X ‘Old Royal’ is probably the closest we’ll get to the ‘Orlando’ X as it features a Magic-like colorway. February has arrived for this shortened NBA season and with All-Star break soon approaching, we’ll see teams turn it up as the final stretch gets closer. The starters for the All-Star Game were announced yesterday and it looks like the best of the Staples Center versus the best of the 2003 NBA Draft as Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, Andrew Bynum and Blake Griffin will take on Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony. We also saw the Knicks continue to struggle as they fell six games below .500 after the Bulls came to MSG and dominated led by Derrick Rose. In addition to the great play on court, the Jordan heat didn’t stop as we saw a brand new colorway of the Jordan CP3.V and the Air Jordan III ‘True Blue’. Things are slowly returning to normal in Boston as the Celtics are now at .500 for the season after holding on to defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers last night.
