The watch for Air Jordans around the league continues, as we keep you updated on the latest batch of retros and performance sneakers being laced up around the NBA. This time around there’s quite a few more from the latter category, with the one standout rocking retros being Courtney Lee, pictured above in the Air Jordan X ‘Chicago’. Q-Rich again showed off his PE prowess, with a tailor made colorway of the Jordan Big Ups during the Magic/Bobcats face off. The Air Jordan 8.0 continues to be a particularly salient shoe for Jordan Brand’s NBA athletes, with not a few days going by without someone rocking the strapped up hybrid, with Monta Ellis filling that role this week. Also notable was Rip Hamilton in the Jordan Fly 23, who took advantage of the Bulls colorway to match his own Chicago uni. Some would argue that the NCAA is better than the professional game because athletes are playing because they love the game and the team aspect. Others would argue that, that isn’t the case at all. Without going in depth into the politics of the situation, we can agree that there is better footwear in the NCAA than there is in the pro game. San Diego State kept up their heat streak by breaking out the Air Jordan IX ‘Charcoal’ as well as the ‘Metallic’ Vs on the road against New Mexico. This past weekend was an eventful one in college basketball as we saw team’s like Indiana and Baylor fail road tests with the Bears falling from the undefeated ranks. With conference play well underway things like this are expected before March Madness is officially here. While a national champion won’t be crowned until April, some teams are making their case for the title of wearing the best sneakers on court. Teams like San Diego State and Arizona are turning heads with their Jordan heat as well as their play on court moves. In arenas across the country, we witnessed a variety of footwear from the Air Jordan XI in many colorways to the Air Jordan VII ‘Bordeaux’ and Jordan Melo M8 ‘Syracuse’. Its been an interesting past few days in college basketball. The Pac-12 currently looks like a one bid conference for the NCAA Tournament and Pittsburgh as well as Villanova are on a slide that no one would have predicted coming into this season. With that said, some teams like the Georgetown Hoyas are doing well as they’ve crept into the top 10 and came back from 17 down to topple Marquette. So far this season, we’ve seen great on court play and great footwear and that continued this week as we saw the Air Jordan XI ‘Concord’, Cal break out new away PEs and the Air Jordan XIV ‘Last Shot’ just to name a few. The conference play portion of the college basketball season kicked off just before the ball dropped and we were treated with some good games before and after 2011 came to an end. Syracuse continued to assert their dominance in the NCAA as they made quick work of DePaul to keep extend their winning streak to 15 games and keep their #1 ranking. As is the case every year when these two teams play, Louisville and Kentucky didn’t fail to excite as Russ Smith and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist stole the show in Rupp Arena. In addition to the theatrics this past weekend, we saw a good range of sneaker heat such as Tony Wroten’s Air Jordan XI ‘Concord’ to the Jordan Fly Wade 2 and Jordan CP3.V player exclusives worn by Marquette and Cal respectively. Montrose Christian High School is currently ranked #23 in the nation with a record of 9-1. They have made light work of most of their competition and they’ve done so in their Jordan Brand PEs. One of the player exclusives they’ve worn during the season is the Jordan Fly 23. This particular pair of Fly 23′s comes in Black/White-Deep Forest with the school’s name on the tongue of the shoe. Team player exclusives are difficult to come by unless you know someone on the team or you shell out big bucks. The 2011-12 high school basketball season is getting ready to kick off and when it does, three of the nation’s elite programs will be sponsored by Jordan Brand. Montrose Christian Academy, Oak Hill Academy and St. Patrick’s should all be familiar names as they’ve produced Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony and Kyrie Irving respectively. In addition to rocking a PE version of the Jordan Melo M8, Oak Hill will also get school versions of the Air Jordan 2011 A-Flight, Jordan Fly 23 and Jordan Big Ups. Montrose Christian out of Rockville, MD will wear the Jordan Fly 23 and A-Flight, each of which feature the school’s colors and name stitched across the tongue. St. Pat’s, who are coming off of a near perfect season, will have the choice of wearing either the Big Ups, Fly 23 or A-Flight when they take the court this year. The Maui Invitational kicked off yesterday at Chaminade University and this tournament is a favorite for everyone involved for reasons ranging from great competition to the weather. Among the teams in the EA Sports tournament are Duke, Michigan, Memphis and Kansas. In addition to the hot Hawaiian weather, sneaker heat was seen on the court. Sneakers worn by players on court yesterday included team exclusive versions of the Air Jordan 2011 A-Flight to the Air Jordan III ‘True Blue’ just to name a few. With the NBPA rejecting the owners’ latest proposition, fans of basketball are going to have to get used to seeing college basketball dominating the airwaves. For those who enjoy the college game, it couldn’t come at a better time as 24 hours of college basketball began at midnight. Before that however were last night’s games with some of the top teams in the nation taking the court. Teams like Syracuse, UConn, Marquette and Georgetown were laced with Jordan heat in addition to some lesser known schools who brought out their personal stash. This past weekend, the college basketball season officially began with the first practices which are held during Midnight Madness.
