Well, Michael Jordan and the rest of the Dream Team squad but of course we’re going to focus in on the GOAT. That’s right, the upcoming NBA 2K13 will feature that 1992 Olympic Team with Michael Jordan featured front and center here. He even gets some special treatment graphics wise, with the majority of the team suited up in generic sneakers whereas Michael is clearly in the Air Jordan VII (although the colorway doesn’t look quite ‘Olympic’). The Dream Team talk will no doubt continue today, as Team USA’s recent obliteration of Nigeria in the 2012 London Olympics had the Americans breaking down a couple old records set by that legendary 1992 squad. As a throwback today we’re looking at another piece of apparel from that era, a vintage Nike shirt with Michael Jordan front and center. The shirt, which reads “Land of the Free” on front and “Home of the Brave” on back, assembles a group of six dream team members that were Nike athletes at the time: Charles Barkley, Scottie Pippen, John Stockton, David Robinson, Chris Mullin, and of course the all-important Michael Jordan (curiously wearing the Air Jordan V of a couple years prior). The ‘Dream Team’ squad that represented the USA in men’s basketball at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona is considered by many to be the greatest sports team ever assembled, but does the current crop of b-ball Olympians have a leg up on them? Team member Kobe Bryant seems to think so, recently claiming in an interview that the 2012 USA Olympic basketball team would beat the 1992 Dream Team in a head to head game. Ever the competitor Michael Jordan heartily disagreed, saying he “absolutely laughed” at Kobe’s claims and that “For him to compare those two teams is not one of the smarter things he ever could have done.” It’s a question that we can never really answer, but for what it’s worth ESPN analysts ran some 10,000 computer simulations of the matchup, giving the 1992 team the W 53.1 percent of the time by a mere one point margin on average.
