The pair had a strong connection to the likes of the UNC palette, with the original print ad featuring the pair also featuring Michael Jordan wearing a jersey from said school. Air Jordan IX: Photo Blue Patent Leather – Black | Unreleased Sample

The “Photo Blue” was a sneaker that went to retail in two different versions, the white bottom and later the factory screw-up black bottom. Shown here is what may or may not have been intended as another version of the sneaker, one using quite a bit more blue and some patent leather sectioning. Then again the colorway kind of looks like a Kilroy Pack outtake, the blue/black lining up with the “Slim Jenkins” pair. The IE Low is perhaps the Air Jordan to deviate the most from its high-counterpart. The Low apparently had the potential to challenge that pair, as evidenced by this unreleased prototype version of the sneaker. The “Black Bottom” is releasing on May 9th, 2013. You’ll recall that this alternate version of the Air Jordan IX “Photo Blue” was produced as a factory flaw, with the b-grade labeled pairs thought to be destroyed following the mess up. Fortunately, Jordan Brand decided that they deserved a retail release-one that will go down just next week at the low price of $130.
