It’s been a while since we’ve seen one of those deconstructions of a classic Air Jordan model. The process is just a bit controversial, with the whole thing being a bit hard to stomach at times given the sanctity of certain sneakers. This one should go down a bit easier then, a stripping of the Air Jordan 8.0 in its ‘Aqua’ colorway done to the bare bones. The Air Jordan 8.0 sample seen here is just beyond the bounds of the typical Jordan Brand palette, making you wonder a bit whether it wasn’t a PE for the likes of someone like Quentin Richardson at some point down the line. The proper Orlando Magic colorway is certainly there, with the necessary black, blue, and white sectioning all showing up. Plenty of exciting matchups went down over the weekend in the NBA, and with that came exciting footwear selections from the Jordan Brand camp. As far as new silhouettes hitting the court, Dwyane Wade laced up in the Jordan Fly Wade Flight PO for the Heat/Pistons showdown, showing off the upcoming model with a 24 point performance. The watch for Air Jordans around the league continues, as we keep you updated on the latest batch of retros and performance sneakers being laced up around the NBA. This time around there’s quite a few more from the latter category, with the one standout rocking retros being Courtney Lee, pictured above in the Air Jordan X ‘Chicago’. Q-Rich again showed off his PE prowess, with a tailor made colorway of the Jordan Big Ups during the Magic/Bobcats face off. The Air Jordan 8.0 continues to be a particularly salient shoe for Jordan Brand’s NBA athletes, with not a few days going by without someone rocking the strapped up hybrid, with Monta Ellis filling that role this week. Also notable was Rip Hamilton in the Jordan Fly 23, who took advantage of the Bulls colorway to match his own Chicago uni. Our weekend roundup of Jumpmen representatives in the NBA is a pack pretty much split down the middle, with a handful of players lacing up in newer models and another group opting for the homage with recent retro releases. In the former group comes Carmelo Anthony, who laced up in the Jordan Melo M8 in a nailbiter against Boston-a team with one of the longest JB athletes in the form of Ray Allen, who was spotted in the Air Jordan 2011 A-Flight. Meanwhile down in Miami D-Wade went with a black and white version of his latest signature silhouette the Jordan Fly Wade 2. Landing as the in-between of the old and the new was Bobby Simmons of the Clippers with the hybridized Air Jordan 8.0. There was plenty of heat in the on display for the retro realm, with Monta Ellis shown above in the Air Jordan XI ‘Space Jam’ and Gerald Green making the most of his 10-day return in the Air Jordan XI ‘Concord’. Houston’s Courtney Lee in the Air Jordan X ‘Chicago’ and Washington’s Jordan Crawford in the Air Jordan VII ‘Cardinal’ round out the pack with their selections. Earlier this year, Jordan Brand attempted to wrangle in the hardcore Jordan enthusiasts by releasing the Air Jordan 8.0 ‘Aqua’ and they’ll do so once with this 8.0. The Air Jordan 8.0 in White/Varsity Red-Neutral Grey-Flint mimics an original colorway of the Air Jordan VIII which has been dubbed the ‘Bugs Bunny’ by some because of its resemblance to the cartoon character. The way that the 2011-12 college basketball is unfolding it looks like we’ll be in for a good finish. Besides Syracuse, there is no clear cut dominant team as we’ve seen schools like Ohio State and Louisville get upset in dramatic fashion while on the road. During those games, we’ve seen some impressive Jordan heat and today we have them for your viewing pleasure. San Diego State might be the team with the most sneaker heat in the NCAA as players broke out the Air Jordan X ‘Varsity Red’ against Chicago State. The University of North Carolina wasn’t to be outdone as we saw the Air Jordan XI ‘Concord’, Air Jordan V ‘Wolf Grey’ and player exclusive versions of the Jordan CP3.V and Jordan Fly Wade 2. In eight games of this young NBA season, Golden State Warriors guard Monta Ellis has averaged 24.1 points per game. With all-star ballots already being cast, the explosive scorer is making a push to finally be included in this year’s festivities. If he doesn’t make it to the game, at least he’ll be a sneaker all-star. Ellis formerly wore And 1, but as a result of his contract expiring, he became a sneaker free agent. This past weekend against the Los Angeles Lakers, Monta wore the recently released Air Jordan 8.0 ‘Aqua’. The Warriors would lose that game 97-90 to fall to 3-5. Tomorrow, many people will think the Air Jordan VIII ‘Aqua’ retroed when they see it on store shelves. Actually its not the ‘Aqua’ VIII, but the Air Jordan 8.0 ‘Aqua’. Jordan Brand modernized the Air Jordan VIII and threw the classic color combination on it. In doing so, they may have just raised the awareness for the 8.0 as many people love the colorway, but can’t find a pair of VIIIs of their own for a variety of reasons. Could the people’s need of the ‘Aqua’ VIII translate into success for the ‘Aqua’ 8.0?
