Viewers tuned to NBC on June 11, 1997 saw one of the most important performances in sports history. It was Game 5 of the NBA Finals, with a flu-addled Michael Jordan trying to will his Chicago Bulls ahead in a deadlocked 2-2 series with the Utah Jazz. And Jordan delivered, scoring 38 points, the last of which tallied by way of a string of clutch jumpers to give the Bulls a 90-88 win. With the series tipped 3-2 their way, the Bulls returned to Chicago to clinch their 5th NBA title in Game 6 and with it Jordan’s fifth Finals MVP award. The black and red Air Jordan 12s that MJ wore in that pivotal “Flu Game” have become legendary in the nearly 20 years since, as new fans seek to connect with a moment only number 23 could create. They’re back tomorrow, virtually identical to the originals. Find close-ups below and let us know if you’re going in on these.
