Michael Jordan is taking his Qiaodan trademark case to China’s supreme court, after a lower Chinese court ruled in favor of Qiaodan earlier this year.
The Charlotte Hornets owner and former Chicago Bulls star filed a lawsuit against Qiaodan in 2012, claiming the Chinese sportswear brand appropriated his name and likeness to form and build its company.
“In light of the trademark dispute ruling, we intend to appeal to the Supreme People’s Court for retrial,” a spokesman for Jordan’s legal team said in a statement issued to Reuters.
The Jordan name is known as “Qiaodan” in China, a country that has seen the sport of basketball and popularity of NBA basketball stars grow exponentially in the last 25 years.
