Jordan Brand welcomes Guo Ailun to its deep roster of talent, marking the brand’s first Chinese basketball player. The announcement comes as Jordan Brand celebrates 20 years of presence in Greater China, planting roots in a nation that has seen the game of basketball explode in popularity in that span.
“We’re excited to welcome Guo to the Jordan Family,” Michael Jordan said via Nike release. “From his competitive spirit and style of play on the court to his strong personality off the court, he’s a great fit for the brand. We look forward to Guo representing the game, Jordan Brand, and ultimately himself in Greater China.”
Ailun, 23, was the leading scorer of the 2010 Under-17 World Championship team, and was the youngest player to ever play for China when he suited up at age 16 for the 2010 FIBA World Championship.
“Joining the Jordan Brand family is a dream come true,” Guo said via Nike release, “I’ve visualized playing like MJ since I was a kid — from managing the game and leading my team to a championship. It is an honor to be the first Jordan Brand athlete in China and I am thrilled to bring my love of the game to the brand.”
