It’s not nearly as popular as Crying MJ, but Michael Jordan’s “Stop It, Get Some Help” has taken on a low-key meme life of its own.
The line is taken from a public service address Jordan filmed on behalf of McDonald’s circa 1985, in which he big brother warns teenagers of the perils of drug use. As his monologue winds down he implores kids messing around with drugs: “So don’t blow it. Don’t do drugs. If you’re doing it, stop it. Get some help.”
The message is as valid today as it was 30 years ago, but it’s Jordan’s measured yet smooth, reassuring delivery that has helped make it a semi-viral thing.
