Air Jordan 31 designer Tate Kuerbis took a risk with the jump between Air Jordan 18 and Air Jordan 19, going more in-depth on the concept of a shrouded basketball sneaker. Air Jordan 18.5 bridged the gap between them in 2004 without a shroud, instead going with a low profile lacing system and paneled tumbled leather construction. For Air Jordan fans who weren’t fans of covered laces but liked the ground effect vibe of the AJ18, this was the choice.
