One of the favorite colorways in sneaker history, Air Jordan 5 “Grape” hit the scene in 1990 sporting a purple and teal colorway that set a new precedent for basketball shoe aesthetics. It was the only colorway of the original four Air Jordan 5s that Michael Jordan never wore on-court, yet fans flocked to it for the bright color contrast and fun factor. Jordan Brand reissued the Grape 5 in fall 2006 as a limited release, sparking massive lines, busy online commerce and a huge resell market for the shoe. It released once more in spring 2013 with equal acceptance. The next step in the release history may be a remastered version with Nike Air returned to each heel – time will tell. For now, shop pairs at Stadium Goods.
