Though the NBA fined Michael Jordan for wearing the Nike Air Ship in black/red his rookie season in 1984-85, the message was loud and clear. No bold sneakers, especially if they don’t blend vanilla to the team uniform. That edict pretty much locked out the similarly styled Air Jordan 1 as well, which Nike was keen to make an example of in its 1985 “Banned” campaign. Paralleling Michael Jordan’s young career, a star was born. Air Jordan 1 “Banned” releases on September 3rd in Nike Air form, just the fifth time in history (1985, 1994, 2001, 2013, 2016). All of the OG touches return thanks to Jordan Brand’s remastered treatment, and fans will have three sets of laces – black, white, and red – to customize their kicks. Check the official product photos of the “Banned” 1s below, and let us know if 9/3/16 can’t arrive soon enough.
