Mitchell & Ness celebrates the 30th anniversary of Michael Jordan’s historic, record-setting playoff performance with the “63-Point Playoff Game” authentic jersey.
Mitchell & Ness is producing this jersey for the very first time, complete with every period authentic detail – mesh body, font style, and heat pressed logos, name and number – that Jordan wore during his unforgettable game in Boston Garden on April 20, 1986.
By the time of Jordan’s performance, the stage had been set. The 23-year-old was coming off of his stellar NBA Rookie of the Year campaign in which he averaged 28.2 points, and led the Bulls to an 11-game improvement and the NBA Playoffs for the first time in four years.
But the second season started with a huge setback. Jordan fractured navicular tarsal bone in his left foot three games in, keeping him out of action until March 15, 1986 – over four months later.
Once back, Jordan quickly caught up pace and was full steam ahead by the time the Chicago Bulls’ first round series with the title-contending Boston Celtics showed up. The Bulls took a loss in game 1, but game 2 was a new story. Boston’s usual clamp-down defense couldn’t handle Jordan’s repertoire of handles and moves, enabling Jordan to finish with 63 points, five rebounds, six assists, three steals, two blocks, 19-21 free throws, 22 of 41 from the field, in 53 minutes played. Boston outlasted Chicago, 135-131, in overtime, but the mark had been made. Michael Jordan was a bonafide superstar.
Jordan’s 63-point game still stands as the record for most points scored by an individual in an NBA playoff game.
The Michael Jordan 63-point jersey releases Friday, March 11 at select Mitchell & Ness retailers. Find exclusive photos below and stay tuned to Jordans Daily for additional details.
