Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls capped a truly historic run 22 years ago today with their third straight NBA title. The Bulls and Suns battled back and forth throughout that Game 6 in Phoenix, with the Suns nearly pushing their momentum enough to force a seventh and deciding game. Then John Paxson’s three-pointer happened. B.J. Armstrong took the inbounds from Jordan and then kicked it back to him. Jordan advanced the ball to Scottie Pippen, who then drew the Suns defense in the lane, dumped it to Horace Grant who drew Suns guard Danny Ainge away from the wing, leaving veteran shooter John Paxson all alone in three-point land. He cans it. Bulls 99, Suns 98. Grant’s block of Kevin Johnson sealed the win and the Bulls erupted in celebration.

Jordan finished with 33 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and one steal, and his 1993 Finals averages were astounding: 41.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 6.3 assists, 1.7 steals and nearly one block (0.7) per game. And he did all of that in the Air Jordan 8 Black-Black-True Red.

Watch the Bulls’ final play of Game 6 that secured their first 3-peat 22 years ago today below.
