A jersey favorite is the subject of today’s Vintage Gear. This is the commemorative release Nike Authentic 1984-85 Chicago Bulls Jordan jersey from around 2003, when Michael Jordan was wrapping up his legendary career as a member of the Washington Wizards.
During his time in this jersey, Jordan averaged 28.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 2.4 steals en route to 1985 NBA Rookie of the Year honors. But despite how awesome it looks, this jersey isn’t an exact authentic replication of the original. We’re behooved to mention that the original was a “Sand-Knit” jersey produced by Medalist and MacGregor, and it was all screen printed – no word marks, names, numbers, logos were stitched on.
Jordan’s 1984-85 rookie season was the final campaign for this cursive script style “Away” jersey, as the Bulls moved both their home and away jersey to the block lettering you see today. As reported by ESPN jersey watcher Paul Lukas, the Bulls will wear this style jersey again during the 2015-16 season, complete with the white lettering on the back.
