While most people thought the Air Jordan 5 that dropped today was simply another clean lifestyle colorway dreamed up by Jordan Brand, it’s actually an historically significant look.
Here we get a “Pre-Grape” comparison between an original 1990 sample and the 2015 release. This Midnight Navy/White/Turquoise Blue was supposed to release instead of the White/Grape Ice-New Emerald back then but it got shelved the last 25 years until today.
As you can see, the overall shape and little related details are different between the two, and the body color doesn’t quite match up due to the age of the ’90 version, but looks like Jordan Brand re-created the colorway spot on.
Did you pick up the 2015 retro today? A quick retail check shows there are plenty of sizes still available. Share your thoughts on this bit of Air Jordan history in the comments.
