Today we have the latest look at the wearable tribute to Michael Jordan‘s first retirement and his now famous “The Spirit” statue that resides outside of the United Center, or as Bulls fans might call it “The House That Jordan Built.”
This Air Jordan 9 presents a take on the 12-foot high bronze statue of Michael Jordan that was commissioned and then sculpted throughout 1994 following Jordan’s October 6, 1993 retirement from the NBA. Since Air Jordan 9 was the current signature sneaker at the time of the statue’s creation and in the effort of looking toward the future, that’s the shoe chosen for Jordan’s bronze feet.
White leather with slightly green-tinged bronze touches on the lining, lace loops and speckled midsole. The backside of the tongue features a tag with November 1, 1994 stitched in – the date the statue was unveiled to the public ahead of Michael Jordan’s retirement ceremony that evening at the brand new United Center.
An August 22nd release date has been floated but we’ll update with official release details as soon as they come available.
