Having copious colorways of the Air Jordan 1 isn’t exactly news these days but Jordan Brand could be shaking up that formula for 2015 with a reintroduction of the alternate sole Air Jordan 1 from 1985.

What alternate Air Jordan 1? Well, it breaks down like this. Nike, led by then-Creative Director and Air Jordan 1 project head Peter Moore, tinkered with AJ1’s layout during Michael Jordan‘s rookie 1984-85 season, having the young star wear iterations of the Air Jordan Wings logo-adorned shoe we all know like the back of our hands, as well as a version that featured a Nike Wings logo and a hybrid sole unit that mixed elements from the soles of Jordans 1 and 2.

Though it’s unclear exactly how the resulting hybrid sole performed in comparison to the standard sole, a different yet original Air Jordan 1 was born. It remains a “forgotten” relic, much like Air Jordan 1 KO was until it was brought back in 2010, but recent samples like this black and gum version means you may soon be able to bring it out of the past and put it on your feet.

And with 2015 marking the 30th anniversary of Air Jordan, the time is ideal for such a bringback.

We’ll have more details and developments on this 2015 release as it happens. In the meantime enjoy photos of the sample, as well as comparison shots to see where all of this is coming from, below.
