Outside of the United Center stands a Michael Jordan statue of MJ in the Jumpman post with him wearing the Air Jordan IX despite the fact he never wore the IX during his basketball career. The Air Jordan IX was originally released during the 1993-94 season which was when Jordan was retired, and the White/Dark Powder Blue is one of the original colors that technically never retroed although a similar AJ IX Retro released in 2010 but with a lighter shade of blue. This colorway ties back to Jordan’s alma-mater, the University of North Carolina and was designed for the 1994 NBA All-Star Game as evident by the design on the outsole.
