It was a spectacular night in Chicago last night, and not because Bulls fans are still painting the town red after Sunday’s win over Miami. Celebrities from miles around joined together at the United Center to celebrate and mourn the departure of Oprah Winfrey from daytime television. Although it didn’t seem like much of a surprise, last night’s show was a testament to the impact Oprah has had on the city, the nation, and the world. Among the attendees were the likes of Dr. Maya Angelou, Maria Shriver, Jamie Foxx, Stevie Wonder, Simon Cowell, Rosie O’Donnell, et al. Her impact on the city highlighted by the appearance of Michael Jordan, perhaps the city’s most famed modern icon next to Oprah. Combined these two people/entities have given back colossal legacies to the city that encompass the entire world with the Oprah Winfrey Show being viewed in approximately 146 countries and Air Jordans appearing on the feet of young basketball players all over the world as they aspire to “be like Mike.” They entered the spotlight at the same time and Jordan’s acknowledgement of Oprah was a testament to the shoes that anyone who comes after will have a hard time filling. via Chicago Tribune
