Jordan Brand has honored director/actor Spike Lee‘s contribution to Air Jordan lore in recent years with sneakers like the Spiz’ike, Son of Mars, even a blue and yellow colorway re-imagining the movie poster for his film Do the Right Thing. Now it appears another character from the 1989 movie is getting his own sneaker release.
Here’s an early glance at the nubuck Air Jordan 2 “Radio Raheem,” inspired by the imposing boom box-toting, D battery-buying personality portrayed in the film by actor Bill Nunn. The shoe is an application of almost blackish obsidian blue, with a lighter university blue and white providing accent support.
Details are mum at the moment on the direct correlation between this colorway and Radio Raheem – his double bracelet? – and there’s no word just yet on a possible expansion of the concept. But fans of the film and of early Air Jordan models could have a field day imagining up other character-inspired colorways. What would a Buggin’ Out edition of Air Jordan 4 look like, for instance? (His beloved, scuffed Air Jordan 4 White/Cement is due back with Nike Air branding on February 13, 2016.)
