Some athlete sneaker giveaways involve awarding or assigning pairs to chosen social media followers, then shipping through a parcel service. For instance, Kendall Marshall’s giveaway. Or Stephen Jackson’s. Others, like Ray Allen’s, require some trekking. The semi-retired shooting legend has been placing some of his old size 14 Jordans in spots around the Hartford, Connecticut area, including behind a bench near the Hilton, and in overgrown grass next to the abandoned Ames department store headquarters 20 minutes south in Rocky Hill.

For those considering the trip to this sprawling white elephant at 2418 Main Street, don’t. Fans on Ray’s Instagram report the shoes have already been claimed. And, you know, traipsing around derelict property generally lowers one’s chances of a good day.
