As a follow-up to our Vintage Gear look at the 1991 Air Jordan product brochure, here’s the first issue Air Jordan Flight Club newsletter, released in 1989. True to AJFC’s mission, the newsletter was crafted to bring fans closer to the world of Air Jordan, including showing the human side of Michael Jordan that they could relate to. From exclusive photos to biographical articles to game statistics to Air Jordan product showcases, this newsletter was the inside source of all things MJ. Remember, no Internet in 1989. If you wanted to learn more about MJ, or most anything else for that matter, you had to hit the library, watch cable TV, or take advantage of any print media available. And forget making your day, when you got anything AJFC-related in the mail it made your entire month. Too bad kids don’t really have much reason to anticipate these kinds of things in the mail anymore; the info and photos felt so much more important because you had to wait in a Google-less world.
Check out the photos below to get a feel for what fans saw back then. And if you’re interested in adding this rare piece to your Air Jordan memorabilia room, eBay seller getpostal has a few available.
