The Nike Air Ship sneakers Michael Jordan wore early in his 1984-85 NBA rookie season sold at auction for $71,554.
SCP Auctions, the consignment house that handled the auction between its April 8 to April 26 run, stated that the buyer of the 30-year-old sneakers will remain anonymous.
On December 2, 1984, Los Angeles Lakers ballboy Khalid Ali obtained the white and red shoes from Jordan after Jordan wore them in a 113-112 Bulls road win at the Forum. Jordan wore the Air Ship in various iterations from late October 1984 through February 1985, then debuted his first Nike signature shoe, Air Jordan 1, in March 1985.
The last pair of Michael Jordan game-worn Air Jordans to be auctioned, a pair of black and red Air Jordan XII that Jordan wore during his “Flu Game” in the 1997 NBA Finals, closed at $104,765 in 2013.
