On the court, Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan were a clash of the titans in perpetuity, but off the court they’re close friends. It’s a relationship that continues today so successfully that Johnson still receives free Air Jordan care packs – sneakers, apparel, accessories included.
As Johnson explained in a recent interview with ThePostGame.com, all it takes is a phone call to Air Jordan himself.
“I call him up all the time and say ‘Send my package of Air Jordans,'” Johnson said.
It’s a sharp contrast to Johnson’s 1980s run when he, alongside Larry Bird, Isiah Thomas, Bernard King, Kevin McHale and Mark Aguirre, pitched sneakers on behalf of Converse. Johnson’s Converse endorsement culminated with his own Magic signature sneaker line in the early ’90s.
Watch Magic talk free Air Jordans in the video interview below, as well as a younger Magic riffing in the famous Converse rap commercial.
