Zach LaVine ran away with the 2015 Sprite Slam Dunk title during NBA All-Star Weekend last month, his aerial act defying gravity and crowd expectations with ease. The Timberwolves rookie even used the first of his four jaw-dropping dunks to pay homage to one of his favorite movies, Space Jam, with a Michael Jordan “Tune Squad” jersey on his back and, er, Nike Kobe X All-Stars on his feet.
Would the sleek blacked out look of the Air Jordan 11 “Space Jams” have been more apropos? Of course but his jersey gesture and subsequent spectacular throw-down covered that. And besides, LaVine is moving in the right direction vis a vis Jordan sneakers. Just last night he donned a pair of Air Jordan 3 “True Blue” in the Wolves’ road game against the Clippers (89-76 Clips W). No crowd stunning antics from LaVine, just a quiet three points. But did you see that dunk contest?
