June 12th, 1991: Michael Jordan Wins First NBA Championship

Tonight, Dirk Nowitzki has the opportunity to clinch his first NBA Championship of his career against the Miami Heat in Game 6 of the 2011 NBA Finals. Before Nowitzki does that, Jordans Daily takes a look back at Michael Jordan winning his first NBA Championship of which he did twenty years ago today. Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls had finally overcome their bitter rival, the Detroit Pistons, in an Eastern Conference Finals sweep to make it to the NBA Finals for the first time in his career. The Bulls would take on Magic Johnson and the Los Angeles Lakers in the highly anticipated 1991 NBA Finals. After losing the first game of the series, Michael Jordan and the Bulls would go on to win the next four games and clinch their first title on the floor of the Great Western Forum. Jordan would be awarded the 1991 NBA Finals MVP averaging 31.2 PPG, 11.4 APG and 6.6 RPG. One of the most memorable moments of the series and NBA history is perfectly captured by Marv Albert where MJ switched hands in mid air while laying the ball up in Game 2.
