Michael Jordan played a good chunk of the 1996 NBA Playoffs in Air Jordan 11 Low IE, taking Tinker Hatfield’s summer 1996 sneaker for a ride during select games against the New York Knicks and Orlando Magic. Still, as well as MJ played in the shoe – he dropped 46 with them in New York – it’s good he had his Air Jordan 11 “Bred” mids at the ready for extra ankle protection.

With just over seven minutes left in Game 3 against Orlando, MJ tweaked his left ankle on a drive wearing the IEs, slipping on a damp floor spot that color broadcaster Matt Goukas blames on rain. Possible leaks in the Orlando Arena roof aside, MJ doesn’t take any more chances, heading to the bench during the next break in play to switch into his midcut 11s.

Check boxes for more ankle protection and arguably much more style. The Bulls prevailed in Game 3 with an 86-67 blowout win, with MJ scoring a quiet 21 points in 37 minutes. He stuck with the mids for Game 4, a 106-101 Bulls win to complete the four-game sweep.
