Air Jordan 1 “Chicago” bombed when Nike re-released it in 1994. TJ Maxx discount clearance bombed. The early ’90s were not particularly friendly to retros. Apparently, the concept of wearing “old” sneakers hadn’t yet taken hold, and with good reason. Nike was churning out so many classics that athletes and sneaker fans alike could only think about the next dope shoe. So, the Chicago 1 chilled in the vaults until Jordan Brand brought it back in November 2003. It was a Mid and constructed of patent leather, but the public was ready to indulge its nostalgia in this classic Chicago Bulls colorway. Popular sizes sold pretty briskly at the $100 price point. Jeweled Wings logo and a chrome Jumpman hangtag added a fun incentive. Though virtually forgotten today, you can find plenty of pairs available now via eBay.
