Air Jordan 1 “Doernbecher” was the second Jumpman sneaker released in Nike’s lineup of kicks to benefit the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon.

The shoe’s design was guided by Tony Taylor Jr, then a patient at the hospital for kidney disease. In keeping the Doernbecher series, Taylor Jr infused the classic shoe with personal details. The black and blue coloring represents his battle with kidney disease, the number 15 calls out his favorite player Carmelo Anthony, stars for his Generals high school mascot, palm trees for the Bahamas, and even his nickname “Mr. Boober” found its way onto the tongue.

These are getting tougher to find in pristine condition, but keep an eye on spots like Stadium Goods for crisp pairs.
