Michael Jordan’s stable of exotic and high-end automobiles has been a rich source of design inspiration in the Air Jordan line. Tinker Hatfield’s heel tab on Air Jordan 6 came from a spoiler on one of MJ’s Porsches, while he crafted Air Jordan 14’s fast look after MJ’s Ferrari 550 Maranello. The car-as-shoe aesthetic faded until D’Wayne Edwards looked to the Bentley Continental GT for Air Jordan XX1’s design cues. The clean and sculpted leather upper, grille-style vents, and interchangeable Zoom-or-Air cushioning setup mimicked the Bentley’s versatility in wearable style. Aside from the Air Jordan 2/21 “Countdown Pack” in 2008, there hasn’t yet been a retro run for Air Jordan XX1. Still, you never know what Jordan Brand has in the works for 2017 and beyond.
