Jordan Brand’s 306 Yonge retail space in Toronto is packed with the latest sneakers and apparel, but also rare memorabilia from the Jumpman archives like this original sketch that shows Air Jordan 4 in a very different configuration.

The Tinker Hatfield-drawn piece shows the 4 with a zig-zag shaped collar, sheer lateral straps, zebra durabuck detailing – as a progression for AJ3’s elephant print – a full mesh tongue, and a tab-less heel.

Only Hatfield knows why these details never made it to production stage, but it’s safe to say that fans are happy with the version that hit shelves in 1989 and remains a favorite the world over.

You’ll be able to catch it in OG form tomorrow, when the Air Jordan 4 “White/Cement” releases.
