February 14, 1990 may have been a happy Valentine’s Day for most, but not for Michael Jordan.
Somewhere between the Chicago Bulls’ arrival at Orlando Arena and game time with the Magic, his famed number 23 jersey was swiped. It never did turn up and Bulls staff couldn’t come up with a replica jersey big enough for Jordan to wear. So the only option was unpacking the blank number 12 jersey the team carried for just-in-case moments like these.
Jordan scored 49 points, no doubt spurred in part by the jersey snafu, but the Bulls lost to the lowly Magic, 135-129. The game marked the only time MJ wore a random number in competition.
Stay tuned for more #MJMondays as the series rolls along.
