Michael Jordan star power officially converted to the silver screen 20 years ago when Space Jam debuted in theaters on November 15, 1996. Warner Bros. created a cartoon world to match Jordan’s larger-than-life stature, calling upon the then-retired star to shake off the rust and help the Tune Squad defeat the Monstars, thereby keeping Bugs Bunny and pals from indentured positions at Moron Mountain.

To mark the anniversary, the Monstars took over Jordan Brand social media today – in hostile fashion, of course – who promised that their defeat two decades ago was in fact not the end.

Despite a lukewarm response from critics, Space Jam grossed $230.4 million against an $80 million budget, and became a cult classic through video rental and sales through the late 1990s. So classic that many ’80s and ’90s kids remember the flick as a fond childhood moment.

As a special run, Fathom Events re-released the film in very select showings in over 450 theaters in November. The 2pm and 6pm showings on November 13th have come and gone, but you can still obtain tickets for the 7pm show on November 16th. For more info, click here.

Jordan Brand will re-release the Air Jordan 11 “Space Jam” shoes Michael Jordan wore in the film on December 10th.
