Michael Jordan closed out the first run of his NBA career with a three-peat. At the time, that was it. It’s over – no more titles, no more Air Jordans. Even Nike was ready to wave goodbye to the Air Jordan line. But Tinker Hatfield kept chugging along, designing as if nothing changed. Air Jordan 9 released in late 1993, just in range of MJ’s retirement on October 6th. A great design that his Airness would never wear on an NBA court. But a couple of snapshots from months prior show that MJ did at least wear the 9 around casually, and even tested them in practice before he wrapped his third ring. Air Jordan 9 wasn’t quite the orphan we thought. And even better – they’re coming back in the OG White/Black-True Red later this year. Where does AJ9 rank in your all-time favorite Js?
