This summer, Jordan Brand is bringing back a number of styles inspired by MJ’s brief stint with the White Sox-affiliated AA squad Birmingham Barons. The 20th anniversary of MJ ditching the NBA for his childhood dream of being a professional baseball player, one he shared with his late father, actually started today, as Michael Jordan first inked his minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox. In a strange coincidence, the current Cleveland Indians manager and the man who coached the Boston Red Sox to their first World Series championship in a number of years, Terry Francona was his manager. While the story created plenty of doubts, it also topped sports headlines around the country. MJ’s time in the minor leagues came with mixed results: he finished with a .202 batting average in 127 games but a recent documentary on his switch to baseball Jordan Rides the Bus done by ESPN’s 30 for 30 aimed to prove that the negative reception and criticism of Mike’s baseball career wasn’t justified. Do you think His Airness could’ve ended up playing in the majors? Let us know in the comments and also let us know if you plan on picking up the Air Jordan 1 “Barons” or Air Jordan 9 “Barons” once they hit retailers later this year.
