The Future Sole Design Competition is one of the bigger contests in the footwear industry as the designers of tomorrow are given the opportunity to showcase their talent today. Among the sneakers featured in the competition is Carmelo Anthony’s signature line. The Jordan Melo M7 ‘Future Sole’ released this past Summer after its designer sketched the winning design, but did you know that there was a Melo M6 ‘Future Sole’ sample? This pair of the M6 features the colors of Anthony’s former team as well as elephant print throughout the upper. In addition to that, the Future Sole logo is embossed on the elephant print on the shoe’s medial side. In early 2010, the Future Sole Design Competition was held and the winner of said competition is the reason why the Jordan Melo M7 Future Sole came to fruition. This unreleased Air Jordan 1 sample was given to those who were a part of the contest. The upper features a black tonal reflective 3M upper along with a black patent leather swoosh and the Future Sole logo on the heel. Despite the fact that these have been worn, the rarity of the shoe alone is worth bidding on this Air Jordan 1. The Future Sole contest is a competition that gives students the opportunity to design sneakers and apparel for Jordan Brand, Nike and Converse. The 2011 Future Sole Finals were recently held and of the four contests that were held, two of the main competitions were designing a signature shoe and t-shirt for New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony. The designer of the signature shoe had to use New York as an inspiration and it could be seen throughout the design especially on the heel cap. Also like the Carmelo signature shoe contest, the t-shirt competition required its designers to use both ‘Melo and the city he plays for in  the shirt’s conception. While the Carmelo Anthony line has already moved on to the Melo M7 Advance and the Melo M8, the Jordan Melo M7 Future Sole plans to make a fashionably late appearance. Designed by Allen Largin, the Syracuse University player exclusive was rumored to drop at House of Hoops locations in July and while that hasn’t happened yet, there’s still a few more weeks left for it to release. These will be a must have for Syracuse Orange and New York Knicks fans when they do indeed hit retail. Jordan Brand’s Future Sole 2011 competition is now underway with winners having the opportunity to get their feet wet in the sneaker world. Last year, Allen Largin’s Melo M7 design was worn on court by Carmelo Anthony himself and there are plans to release it at retail this summer. The categories for the Future Sole competition are broken up into a high school category and an international/college category with the winners receiving $5,000 worth of computer equipment to further their passion of designing sneakers. Also, for the second year in a row, a t-shirt competition will be held with the winner receiving a Powerbook, and the winning design being sold on the competition’s website.
