Once Spike Lee came aboard in 1988, the Air Jordan went from simply Michael Jordan‘s shoe to pop culture staple. Not only were Lee’s Mars Blackmon commercials spreading the word like wildfire, print ads like the “Death-Defying, High-Flying” mosaic from 1989 put MJ and Mars – and Air Jordan 4 – in front of readers everywhere.
