Released on May 3, 2003, Air Jordan 8 in Black/Chrome became a near instant success thanks to its straightforward colorway and wardrobe versatility.

That spring, many Air Jordan fans were looking forward to the 8 in its original White/Black-True Red “Hare” colorway, which was one of 2003’s highest profile Jordan releases. Remember that this edition and the Chrome were the first Air Jordan 8 retros ever, and the first time since 1993 that sneaker fans old and new had a crack at a fresh, wearable pair. Jordan Brand didn’t drop MJ’s Bred colorway in ’03 – those would arrive during Holiday 2007 – so Black/Chrome filled the “Away” shoe void exceptionally well.

A sign if there ever was one that the Chromes had officially arrived, Kobe Bryant laced up a pair during his whirlwind sneaker free agent 2002-03 season that saw him take turns in all kinds of sneakers – Lakers player exclusive Air Jordan III and VIII, Air Jordan XI Concord, Air Jordan XII Stealth and French Blue, even purple and gold Reebok Question and Converse Weapon versions.

After a 12-year gap, Air Jordan 8 Chrome is slated to be back on shelves this December. Stay tuned for official images and release details as we approach the fall and winter seasons.

You can always find this particular pair and many others via sellers like prestigeworlddist on eBay. Enjoy the photos and stay tuned for more of The Daily Jordan.
